Tadpole

Peninsula Baseball and Softball Association : 9U - Tadpole (Ages 7,8)

Background:

This age group will mostly play an in house schedule. There is a continued focus on skill development at this level with a 3-1 ratio early in the year followed by a 2-1 ratio later in the season of practice/clinics to games.

The Tadpole division is the first age group of player pitch. This is done on a modified basis by having players pitch the first two innings followed by a pitching machine in the final two innings of our four inning games. Games are always concluded with the all-important Dragon Race!

Later in the season we will play some interlock games with other GVBA parks and there are some year-end tournaments that may be available as well.

Tadpole baseball is played on a diamond with 60' base paths and a pitching rubber set at 42'

Schedule:

We have traditionally run this program on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Depending on the number of teams, play will also occur on either Saturday or Sunday. Firm times and dates still tbd.

Equipment:

Your child will receive a team t-shirt, socks,  and PBSA baseball club hat on the first day of the season. Your player will also require a batting helmet with chin strap, baseball glove, grey baseball pant's and an athletic support. Please mark/identify all your players equipment to avoid it getting lost.

Team Selection:

At this level players will undergo a two day assessment process to assist in ensuring that we have equitable teams throughout the division. Players will be assessed on the following disciplines: hitting, pitching, in fielding, and out fielding. Once assessments are completed teams will be formed with an effort to accommodate any friend/coaching requests.

Coaching and Parent Expectations:

Each team will ideally have 1 head coach, 2 assistant coaches, and a team manager. All parents will also be required to assist with scorekeeping, field setup and take down. More information can be found in the volunteering section of our web site.
